As a spiritual awakening coach and mentor, I constantly receive inquiries from people who are worried because they have not found their life purpose.
Yes, I certainly know how distressing it can be to not know what your purpose is because I felt that way too when I went through my existential crisis.
In my opinion, one of the main factors why so many people do not find their purpose in life is because they do not know what purpose is, they have misconceptions and there are many misinterpretations about it, largely promoted by false myths about life purpose that circulate on the Internet and social networks.
False myths that I want to clarify in this post so that you have a more realistic and truthful idea of what the purpose is.
Any doubts you may have concerning the purpose of life must be resolved today, because until you find such answers, you may suffer greatly because of them. Until you find the right answers, you may feel that “your life is hanging by a very thin thread,” a thread that can break at any moment, leading to a feeling of abysmal inner emptiness. At least, that is how I felt at the time.
The purpose of this post is to share with you everything I have learned through my own experience regarding life purpose:
- What is the purpose of life?
- Why should you find your life purpose?
- How can you find your life purpose?
- What keeps you away from him?
- What are the consequences of living without a purpose in life?
I will try to give you answers to all of this and much more, sharing with you my humble experience and learnings along the difficult and profound, but also exciting, spiritual path that I have been following for years.
What is the purpose of life?
The purpose of life is simply and plainly to be happy.
It doesn’t matter what you do, what you do, who you are with, where you live, or how you spend your time, as long as you are truly happy.
But of course, being happy has many nuances and preconditions to achieve this requirement (or goal), which, let’s be honest, very few people manage to achieve due to the lack of knowledge of how to truly be happy.
Throughout this post, you will understand in more depth why the purpose of life is so closely related to spiritual awakening.
To give you a broader idea…
The purpose of life is:
- Be happy, and live your life in peace and harmony.
- Spiritual awakening and realizing the ultimate truth.
- Know yourself on a deep level and achieve mastery of your mind.
- Free yourself completely from suffering.
- Fulfill your mission.
- Something that gives meaning to your existence.
- Following a calling, that voice of your intuition that whispers in your ear to do something in particular, or follow a path, and you know what you should do.
- Something that, if you don’t do it, makes you feel empty and incomplete.
- That reason for living has become a driving force, something that makes you wake up with energy and motivation every morning.
- To love unconditionally, without limits, without putting conditions on love for other people, living beings, or the planet. Let love flow from within you like an inexhaustible source.
- Something that makes you immensely happy because you are passionate about it.
- Something that gives you energy, strength, vitality, and an immense desire to live.
- Something through which you help other people, the planet, or society.
- Something you don’t do out of obligation, you do it simply because it gives meaning to your life, without expecting anything in return, even though sometimes you may even be compensated for it.
- Something you would do even if you retired or were not paid for it, because the main driving force behind it is not lucrative or material in nature.
- Something you do, not out of ego, to obtain wealth, fame, recognition, or success, but for the pure pleasure of contributing and making others happy, leaving aside your selfish interests.
As you see, the purpose of life has a very broad meaning, which you must understand correctly in order not to misinterpret its deep and true meaning, which belongs to an existential dimension.
The two dimensions of purpose are professional and spiritual
Many people reduce the meaning of “life purpose” to a merely professional dimension, but, in my own experience, that approach falls short compared to its true profound scope.
Professional dimension
The most common association of the vast majority of people about the purpose of life is that having a purpose in life:
- It’s doing what you like.
- It is dedicating yourself to something you are passionate about.
- It is doing something for which you have a special gift or talent.
- It’s about dedicating yourself to something you’ve loved all your life, even when you were a child.
And yes, this is quite true, but it is not everything.
I’m sure you know many people who do what they like, and yet they are not completely happy.
And you’ve also heard of famous people who made their dreams come true and yet were not happy.
For example, Michael Jackson, a great and renowned musician, and artist died mysteriously and dramatically, due to the ingestion of a painkiller to which he was addicted; Whitney Houston, the queen of soul-pop, another great singer, actress, and composer, drowned in her bathtub, a victim of an overdose of some narcotic substance; Robin Williams, the renowned actor winner of numerous Oscars, Grammys, Emmys and Golden Globes, ended his life by hanging himself, in addition, he always had major problems with alcohol and drug addiction.
We all know that these artists loved their profession, were brilliant, and had undeniable talent.
However, what was missing for their lives to be culled?
In my opinion, they were lacking something of an existential nature: the development of their spiritual being.
They could have “everything” on a material level: fame, money, success, power, beauty… But true happiness is not obtained by achieving material goals, but rather by making a journey into our inner selves and finding there all the joy, peace, fulfillment, and happiness that we so long for.
Without making this journey back to you, everything else will be in vain. You will live eternally unsatisfied.
The essential requirement for your life purpose to truly be your purpose is that you are truly happy and feel satisfied with your life, not only by carrying out that specific activity or job but also by finding well-being and balance in all areas of your life.
